The Sierra Leone Agro – Processing Competiveness Project (SLAP- CP) focusses on providing solutions to key market failures inhibiting competitiveness of the agro processing sector and limiting firms and SME productivity in Sierra Leone. The SLAP – CP’s mission is to develop through its accelerator programme, high growth potential SMEs with the capacity to disrupt, expand and consolidate on the huge agribusiness potential that the country’s agricultural sector has to offer.
In order to achieve this, we work with key stakeholders such as the Sierra Leone Investment Promotion Agency (SLIEPA), Sierra Leone Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (SMEDA) Sierra Leone Standards Bureau(SLSB) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry ( MTI) amongst a host of others.
The day to day operations of the project are managed by a Project Coordination Unit (PCU) that is charged with the responsibility of primarily implementing the non – fiduciary functions of the project. All fiduciary functions are implemented by the Project Fiduciary Management Unit (PFMU) of the Ministry of Finance. The Project Coordination Unit (PCU) is headed by a Project Coordinator that is under the supervision of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI). A lean team with mainly specialist roles in Ecosystems management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Environmental Impact Assessment, Agribusiness SME development etc,is managed by a TA Facility Manager with expert functions who is charged with the responsibility of managing the technical assistant components of the SME TA facility. Our intervention are of two categories.
The project’s development objective is to improve the business environment in the agribusiness sector and increase productivity of targeted agro-processing firms in Sierra Leone. Direct beneficiaries of the project’s intervention are agro processing firms with specific emphasis on SMEs in targeted value chains and institutions that impact the quality outcome of agribusinesses with respect to their productivity.
Our goal is to be at the heart of the financial services industry as businesses expand across the globe.
